The cool chill reached my hands, making them tingle and shudder. I could feel myself falling apart, like the dried, crisp leaves on cherry trees in the autumn. I let out a shaky breath as I let my eyes roam over the sole article on the pine table. It had been cut out of the morning paper and now it lay boldly against the deep wooden swirls, like a dark black spot on pristine white paper. It signed my death sentence.
